Dear Reader,

If you’re a young Christian woman, then you know that living out God’s commands for young women in this postmodern bizarro-world can feel a lot like swimming up the Niagara River. As an aged Christian woman, I can tell you that living your life this way - living out biblical womanhood - is basically countercultural now, and absolutely has its challenges.

But it’s so very worth it.

So what exactly is biblical womanhood? Here are a few examples of what Titus 2 has to say about the ways young women should order their lives (and, just for fun, a glimpse into what the world has to say about it in parenthesis):

  • Love your husband (I mean, sure, if he treats me right. But if he doesn’t, I can silent treatment him into the ground. If that doesn’t work, we’ve got no-fault divorce, baby).

  • Love your children (I only see them for a bit after daycare anyway, so okay. But I could never be home with them all day. Honestly, those SAHMs are saints.)

  • Be sober (STEP AWAY FROM THE WINE AND NO ONE GETS HURT)

  • Be a keeper at home (What?! Look, I already told you, I could never do that. Plus, what about my career! My degree! My independence!)

  • Submit to your husband (*head explodes*)

I aim to be the woman outside the parenthesis and, if you’ve read this far, I’m guessing you do, too. It’s hard work with not much monetary compensation, and I’ve been doing it for more than a decade. It’s also hands-down the most rewarding thing I’ve done with my life - and this is coming from a woman who once enjoyed a career in corporate communications within a Fortune 500 company.

This is where Aged Woman comes in. You see, God has a few things to say about how older women should be spending their time, too:

Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

Aged Woman isn’t really much deeper than that. God calls me, and all older women, to teach, encourage, love, and equip younger women in these things. It makes sense, right? Really, what this world needs is more mamas guarding homes and nurturing hearts, wouldn’t you agree? Imagine how the world would change. God’s ways are perfect.

So if you’re a younger Christian woman, I welcome you here. We’ll talk about homemaking and parenting, marriage, feminism, faith and what it means to live out biblical womanhood in this postmodern world - and much more. I hope to share with you the knowledge and bits of wisdom I’ve picked up along the way, and to come alongside you in your journey in some small way. Because, while this womanhood thing is an incredible blessing, it can also be hard.

God created the family, and the family is the foundation of civilization, so it’s not hard to see why our civilization is in such a sad state. All is not lost; as a woman, you have incredible influence in shaping the future for God’s glory. So let’s roll up our sleeves and get to cleaning up this culture-mess, one family at a time.

Warmly,

Anne

Biblical womanhood in a postmodern world. Titus 2:3

People

I write about biblical womanhood in a postmodern world. I'm a married mama of two great teens, and we live in the country in the Great Lakes region where I spend my time parenting, homemaking, gardening, reading, writing, and working out.
